Week in Numbers

$30B — Anthropic round
$380B — valuation
$25B — CyberArk deal
754B — GLM-5 params
82 — ransomware incidents
31% — healthcare share

1
Chinese AI Blitz: 3 Models, 48 Hours

In the 48 hours before Lunar New Year, Chinese AI labs released three models that collectively redefined what “open-source” means in 2026.

Qwen 3.5 — 397B — Multimodal
GLM-5 — 754B — MIT License
MiniMax M2.5 — $0.30/M tokens

GLM-5 is particularly notable: 754 billion parameters, fully open-source under MIT license. The timing — just before a national holiday — felt deliberate. The message to the West: the gap is closing, and closing fast.

Anthropic Raises $30B at $380B Valuation

Coatue and Singapore’s GIC co-led the Series G, with Microsoft, Nvidia, D.E. Shaw, Dragoneer, Founders Fund, ICONIQ, and MGX participating. This is the 2nd largest private VC deal in history.

Claude Code: $2.5B+ ARR

Anthropic has grown revenue 10× per year for three consecutive years. Claude Code alone generates $2.5B+ in ARR — a number that didn’t exist 18 months ago. Investors are treating this like infrastructure, not software.

3
Palo Alto Networks Closes $25B CyberArk Acquisition

The largest cybersecurity acquisition in history officially closed this week. Palo Alto Networks absorbs CyberArk’s privileged access management platform — covering human, machine, and AI agent identities.

The timing isn’t coincidental. As AI agents gain access to production systems, privileged access management becomes a new critical attack surface. Palo Alto is positioning for identity security in the agentic AI era.

4
⚠️ February 2026: Worst Cybersecurity Month Ever

82 documented ransomware incidents in a single month. Healthcare accounted for 31% of victims — the highest sector share ever recorded.

82 incidents
Healthcare 31%

Confirmed victims: Sapienza University (Rome), University of Mississippi Medical Center (clinics temporarily closed), BridgePay, Conpet S.A.

Active threat actors: Lotus Blossom (state-sponsored), Russian groups exploiting CVEs, FortiGate appliances targeted by AI-assisted attacks.

5
ElevenLabs Closes at $11B

Sequoia leads a $500M Series D at an $11B valuation. With $330M+ in ARR, ElevenLabs is now the dominant voice AI infrastructure provider.

The investment thesis: every company will need a voice interface for its AI. Phone call is the last mile of human-computer interaction. ElevenLabs owns that layer.

Editor’s Opinion
The $380 Billion Test

Anthropic’s $380B valuation is either the most rational bet in venture capital history or the most spectacular example of FOMO since the dot-com era. There is no in-between.

The GIC signal is what I keep coming back to. Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund doesn’t do FOMO. They do infrastructure. When a sovereign fund treats an AI model like a power grid, that tells you something about where the next 20 years are going.
